Information for Presenters

For ACM MM’25, we will support only oral talks at the main conference. There will be no poster boards or poster sessions at ACM MM’25. For all papers with authors on-site, there will be a short oral talk as part of a themed session. This means that every on-site author will have an oral presentation, along with an MPV (Multimedia Presentation Video) for our online platform and for on-site presentation at the conference venue. For virtual authors, we will rely on pre-prepared MPVs (Multimedia Presentation Videos) only. Please read more about the talks and MPVs below.

Presenter Instructions for Oral Talks and Demos

In every conference session, we will provide a MacBook laptop with adapters, USB sticks (USB C & 3.2) and laser pointers, running Keynote, Preview and Microsoft Powerpoint. Please use this laptop; do not use your own. It is essential, for the smooth running of each session, that all speakers upload their presentations to the podium laptop BEFORE the session begins, so we ask all speakers to arrive at their session at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start-time to meet the session chair and upload the presentation to the podium laptop.

All talks in regular oral sessions can be no longer than 5 minutes with up to 2 minutes of questions. Doctoral Symposium, Industry talks, best paper talks and keynotes will have longer allocated durations (see below). Please note that these times will be strictly observed. We will follow the sequence of talks in the order they appear in the online schedule. At the end of each session, there is a dedicated timeslot (typically 30 minutes) where we ask all speakers to stay in the room (or at the refreshment area) to discuss your work with co-authors and audience.

Demos are running in the Goldsmith Halls 1 & 2 and there will be a morning session and an afternoon session. Your demo will be allocated to one of these sessions.. All demos will be provided with a table, chair, power supply and monitor. Please check the schedule and be in the demo room in advance of your session starting. You are free to set up your demo during the session before your demo starts (e.g. from 9am, or from 1:30pm).

Talks and Demos

Depending on the track, there will also be short oral talks or on-site demonstrations for authors who are physically present at the conference venue:

  • Regular, BNI, Dataset, Open-Source, and Reproducibility papers will be presented via an on-site oral talk (5 minutes + 2 minutes Q/A) and the 2-3-minute MPV on our virtual platform.  Additionally Open-Source papers will have an opportunity to present a demo in the demo sessions (see the conference schedule).
  • Demo papers and Industrial Demos will be presented via an on-site demonstration in a dedicated demo session, and a 2-3-minute MPV.
  • Video papers will be presented via a 7-10-minute MPV.
  • Interactive Art papers will be presented via an on-site installation/demo, and a 2-3-minute MPV.
  • Doctoral Symposium papers will be presented via an on-site oral talk (20 minutes + 10 minutes Q/A) and a 2-3-minute MPV.
  • Industry expert talks will be presented via an oral talk (25 minutes + 5 minutes Q/A)

ALL on-site authors are expected to present a short oral presentation and, at the end of their session, stay to discuss with attendees and other authors in a dedicated discussion forum. This timing will be strictly enforced; you will be asked to stop if you go over your 5-minute allocation. The social session will typically last for 25-30 minutes. All oral presentations must take place on-site. We will not be facilitating any online oral talks.

Multimedia Presentation Videos

For the first time at ACM MM, we will use multimedia presentation videos (MPVs), which are a replacement for single-media static posters. The MPVs are 2-3-minute videos that summarize the contribution with multiple modalities (e.g., visuals, sound, animation, etc.) and will be available:

  • On Whova, our conference app for virtual playback of the MPVs at any time.
  • On LED screens around the venue. These screens will automatically cycle through topically grouped MPVs, but are also equipped with an interactive panel that allows users to select a specific presentation for playback at the conference; this could be by any delegate/participant who is interested to view the MPV for a paper, or authors who want to discuss their work with another delegate during the conference.

Each author must therefore prepare a 2~3-minute video summarising the paper’s content. This is not intended to be a talk, but rather a multimedia presentation featuring audio-visual illustrations, animations, and/or on-screen text to highlight specific concepts. We will provide an upload link for this video in the coming weeks.

Virtual Participation

If authors are participating only virtually, their presentation will only be via MPVs. These will be accessible via the whova app and on screens on-site at the venues.

Switching from Physical to Virtual Participation

We are no-longer supporting switching of presentation modality. Previously, if you could no longer travel to Ireland after being allocated to an in-person oral session, then we are removing your talk from that session. Please note that a delegate who is on-site MUST attend and present at their oral session, and it is the responsibility of the delegate to inform the organisers if they can no longer be present on-site. All registered participants will be receiving an email from our conference partner company (CPI) in the coming days with a link to facilitate this switch.
